Later this month, I’ll be delivering a keynote at the ARN Leadership Program in Sydney, an event designed to help develop the next generation of leaders in the Australian technology industry. I’m particularly pleased to be sharing the stage with Rhody Hill, Founder & Principal at Ecosystem Alchemy, who was the catalyst for me writing my book, and the “grasshopper” in its final chapter. My session, Selling the Vision: Why Great Leaders Need To Be Great Sellers, explores an idea I’ve become increasingly convinced of over the years – that leadership is fundamentally a form of selling.
Leaders are constantly asking people to believe in an idea, support a change, invest in a strategy, or follow a new direction. Authority might create compliance, but genuine commitment requires the ability to listen, understand different perspectives, communicate value, and influence people who may not report to you. After the keynote sessions, Rhody and I will also join other ARN Hall of Famers for the program’s mentoring sessions, where small groups of emerging leaders will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from our experiences.
